Don't You Just Love Election Time

We are coming to the end of Black History month, the time where we reflect and celebrate the great accomplishments of African Americans. However, this month to me has been overshadowed in my opinion by; you guessed it, Election talk? Yes, election talk, conversation on an issue that won’t take place for another year and 9 months. The two most talked about candidates are Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Hilary Clinton. If one of these two candidates were to be elected it would be one of the most historical moments that this country has ever seen. Nevertheless, I have one minor question, just a small minor detail; if these potential candidates are politicking for your vote in the primary election that is not until next May how is it possible that they can get anything done for the constituents that they represent? Don't get me wrong, I totally understand that they have to get the word out and talk to the people, and that most work in the senate and the congress is handled at night. But with all this early campaigning how are they able to have time to get back to Washington D.C. and vote on a bill or make sure an unexpected rider is added to one that is already on the floor? Now I am not saying they should not campaign but the timing is all wrong. So remember as Black History month comes to a close that it is not just a time to talk about the advancement of African Americans, but also to converse about the election.

Soap Opera Coulumn #1

MAD FOR PASSIONS

This is my first story I wrote for the blog. It was
going to be about all the soaps this week, but
unfortunately I found out some distrubing news about
one of my favorite soaps "Passions". NBC decided to
cancel the show to make room for a 4th hour of the
Today show. How stupid is that? Three hours is not
enough of that boring crap. And it's not even good
since Katie Couric left. Anyway I have had battles
with my friends about "Passions". They say it is
stupid, makes no sense at all, glad it's
cancelled, etc. The point of "Passions" is it is out of
the ordinary. It is one of those guilty pleasures like
"Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" we love to
watch but sometimes won't admit it. Hell I love them
all.
"Passions" is set in Harmony and follows the lives of
the following families The Lopez-Fitzgeralds, The
Cranes,The Bennetts, and The Russells. To make a long
story short you have a witch and her daughter who
tries to bring havoc on everybody in town. You got a
woman who's husband is dl, you got another woman who's
dream finally came true and she can finally marry her
baby's daddy but she will lose her millions if she
does,a guy who has been accused of raping his
girlfriend, his brother who is accused of running over
his baby's momma's new husband and so much more you
have to see it for youurself. So many "Save Passions"
sites have popped up on the web even on MySpace so
hopefully my favorite soap will be saved!!
And if NBC doesn't want it I'm sure the sci-fi channel
will it was showing reruns last year on there. But
that's just my opinion!!!

Entertainment Report #1

Campus Ladies

FROM THE APPRENTICE, TO SURVIVOR, DANCING WITH THE STARS, AND AMERICAN IDOL, REALITY SHOWS HAVE BEEN POPULATING THE TV AIR WAVES FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS. IF YOU ARE ANYTHING LIKE ME, THEN YOU ARE VERY TIRED AND NEED A CHANGE OF PACE. EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS AND TURN TO THE OXYGEN NETWORK. MOST PEOPLE TEND TO SHY AWAY FROM THE NETWORK, BUT THERE IS ACTUALLY SOME GOOD PRGRAMMING THERE. THE NETWORK IS COMPRISED OF SYNDICATED PROGRAMMING, REALITY TV, TALK SHOWS, AND AN ORIGINAL SITCOM. ONE OF THE SHOWS IS CAMPUS LADIES, WHICH IN MY OPINION HAPPENS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST HUMEROUS PROGRAMS ON AIR. WITH THE SECOND SEASON COMING TO AN END I HAVE ONLY BIG HOPES THAT THERE WILL BE A THIRD SEASON WITH A LARGER AUDIENCE. THE SHOWS OPENING CREDITS TELL THE STORY OF TWO MIDDLE AGED BEST FRIENDS JOAN AND BARRI, WHO LEAVE THEIR LIVES OF DEATH AND DIVORCE TO GO TO COLLEGE AND FIND THEMSELVES. THE PAST TWO YEARS OF THEIR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN ONE ADVENTURE AFTER THE NEXT, THAT THEIR FORMER LIVES AS SUBURBAN HOUSEWIVES COULD HAVE NEVER PREDICTED. ADVENTURES OF HOMOSEXUALITY, DRUGS, ALCOHOL, ORGASIMS, BATHROOM ETTIQUETTE, FEMINISM, THE HANDICAP, AND RELIGION. I MUST ADMIT, WATCHING THE COMMERCIALS OF THE SHOW I WAS NOT TOO INTERESTED, UNTILL I STUMBLED UPON AN EPISODE ONE LATE NIGHT. IN THE EPISODE BARRI IS LOOKING FOR SEXUAL ACTIVITY, WHILE JOAN IS LOOKING FOR A NICE CONVERSATION. THEIR MALE FRIENDS FROM THE DORM THROW A PARTY HOPING IT WILL LEAD TO SEXUAL ENTERTAINMENT FOR THEM, BUT HAVE NO LUCK. BY THE END OF THE EPISODE BOTH BARRI AND JOAN GOT MORE THAN THEY BARGINED FOR. SINCE THAT EPISODE I HAVE BEEN A CULT FAN OF CAMPUS LADIES, EACH WEEK EAGERLY ANTICIPATING WHAT THEY WILL GET FROM THE “COLLEGE EXPERIENCE”. I AM SURE EVERYONE HAS THEIR FAVORITE REALITY SHOW, DRAMA, OR EVEN COMEDY,BUT I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO TAKE A BREAK FROM THERE NORMAL TELEVISION SCHEDULE AND WATCH THE SHOW. CAMPUS LADIES HAS SOMETHING SPECIAL; THERE IS SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT THE SHOW THAT I FEEL WITH A LARGER AUDIENCE, THE PROPER NETWORK, AND THE RIGHT TIME SLOT, THE SHOW COULD BE A HUGE SUCCESS.

TO GIVE YOU A BETTER IDEA OF THE SHOWS DYNAMICS, THESE ARE SOME OF THE CAST MEMEBERS OF THE SHOW. CARRIE AIZLEY (JOAN) AND CHRISTEN SUSSIN (BARRI), MAIN CHARACTERS, PRODUCERS, CREATED THE SHOW WHILE WORKING ON THE GROUNDLINGS. OTHER PRODUCERS CHERYL HINES, “CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM”, PETER PRINCIPATO AND E. BRIAN DOBBINS “RENO 911” ARE OTHER PRODUCERS ON THE SHOW. IF THAT DOES NOT HAVE YOU A LITTLE INTRIGUED, THE SHOW HAS HAD A VARIETY OF GUEST APPEARANCES FROM ACTORS MEGAN MULLALLY, JASON ALEXANDER, MAYA RUDOLPH, SEAN HAYES, PENNY MARSHALL, JANEANE GAROFALO, ANTHONY ANDERSON, MO’NIQUE, JANE LYNCH, AND OTHERS. CHECK YOUR LOCAL TV GUIDE OR TUNE IN TO THE OXYGEN NETWORK TO SEE THE NEXT TIME CAMPUS LADIES IS AIRED. KEEP AND OPEN MIND, WATCH THE SHOW, AND ENJOY. ITS TELEVISION, THE GREATEST ESCAPE FROM REALITY!

Writing for the world of entertainment.

As ThePrecedentMedia.blogspot.com gets up and running, there will be constant posts everyday on an array of topics. The first writer we have is Lynn D and she will be giving you the entertainment world as she see it. For a little background information on Lynn D, look no further, just scroll down, and look for her first column later today.

Two years after Lynn D was born in Houston, Texas her family moved back to their native Cleveland, Ohio. The most shy but talkative of three children, no one was more surprised than Lynn D when she won the first place award for Extemporaneous Speaking during her senior year of high school. That award inspired her to pursue a degree in Communications at The Ohio State University, where she also minored in African American-African Studies. Lynn D wrote for the university’s student newspaper, The Lantern, while taking a few theatre classes she felt would be an asset to her future in the media spotlight. After graduating from OSU, she moved back to Cleveland where she works, attends a broadcasting school, and in her spare time, has judged the National American Miss Pageant and the Miss Sweetheart Pageant.
